Given the importance of networking and sustaining this IWC–university–community effort, the UIC project team and Executive Board members developed training materials and resources that may be of immediate, measurable benefit to the IWC network.

This collection of materials and resources includes pre-recorded trainings, one-on-one free consultations with the IRLCDN team, and information about opportunities for CBOs to connect with other stakeholders that have relevant expertise and resources to share. In addition, multimedia resources are available on a variety of topics that impact or concern Welcoming Centers around Illinois.

Video spotlights and longer-format interviews created specifically for this project feature a range of speakers: state-level administrators, community agency leaders,  direct service staff, and an immigrant sharing his experience and expertise gained from living with a disability while acclimating to his new home state of Illinois.

The CBO WC grantees who access the pre-recorded training webinars may derive substantial benefit from them. They cover topics and include resources that directly affect the lives of immigrants and refugees around Illinois.

The training resources, which are in the form of Zoom recordings,  include PowerPoint slide presentations and transcriptions. The trainings have been created by members of the project’s Executive Advisory Board and the IRLCDBN team.

Topics include disability/accessibility; Social Security benefits; education (including English as a second language); legal status and citizenship; immigrant and refugee advocacy; mental health services; and housing/homelessness.

These resources were created to address specific service needs of the 17 CBO WCs engaged in this introductory phase of IRLCDN,  but they are of value as informational and instructional tools for the entire IWC network.
