CBO data

Reach and scope of community-based organizations

Utilizing fiscal year service delivery data that we collected from the 17 CBO WC exhibits and then analyzed, we created interactive dashboards that are not only informational as a group but also showcase the particular identity of each CBO WC. For example, one of the dashboards displays the types of services that are offered by each CBO as well as descriptions of educational workshops for immigrants and refugees.

The geographic dashboard maps CBO service areas, based on zip codes across Illinois and displays additional maps that provide more detail about service areas, service gaps, and opportunities/possibilities for service expansion. Another feature of this dashboard is world mapping, which showcases CBO clients based on their counties of origin.

In the demographics dashboard, data from monthly CBO WC reports can be accessed to sort client characteristics such as gender, race, ethnicity; mean age; major spoken languages; and average family size.

The unique combination of these dashboard features helps to show the highly specialized and important work these 17 CBO WC are doing to assist immigrants and refugees throughout Illinois.

Service coverage and client origins Heading link

The Illinois Welcoming Center Program was launched in 2007 to model a state-operated, one-stop human service center to help immigrants and Limited English Proficient individuals navigate and coordinate state services with nonprofit community social services.

In 2017, the Welcoming Center Program transitioned to include a community-based service model that operates as a one-stop service center in a community setting. Community-based organizations deliver welcoming center services to immigrants and refugees who have settled in Illinois.

Services Heading link

The 17 community-based organizations in Illinois offer multiple services to immigrants and refugees, including:

  • Illinois Welcoming Center services, funded by Illinois Welcoming Centers
  • Non-Illinois Welcoming Centers services, not sponsored by the Illinois Welcoming Centers but offered by the community-based organization.

These graphs show the percentage breakdown of CBOs offering Illinois Welcoming Centers and non-Illinois Welcoming Centers services. Five Illinois Welcoming Centers services (case management, crisis intervention, information and referrals, and community and outreach) are provided by all CBOs. Of the non-Illinois Welcoming Centers services, social services are the most widely offered, provided by 10 out of the 17 CBOs.

CBOs help immigrants, but who helps CBOs? Heading link

CBOs work with partners to fulfill the requirements of their clients. Some of the CBOs we studied also partner with each other. On the left, see the number of partners for each CBO. The wider its network, the easier it is for each CBO to address its clients’ requirements.
